Once the Gestapo realizes it has been tricked, the fate of Marla and Catherine hangs on two men who are sworn enemies, and one of them is the traitor.

No one cared how the war was won or what was lost to win it. What did Gertie’s hangnail or the price of butter have to do with what she suffered? Why would anyone think that washing diapers and preparing baby formulas would heal her scars and erase her nightmares? No one understood. No one wanted to understand. She was abandoned to the damned.
Voiceless screams struggled for release. She felt old, too old, as if her soul had traveled a million years through the galaxy, lost and afraid, and was finally too weary of the journey and the things she had seen to keep on going from one empty hope to another. She did not fit in anywhere. There was too much to absorb, too much to resolve, too much hate, too much disillusionment, and too much recrimination. What was normal for other people was not normal for her. She had come back from hell only to find a different hell awaiting her.

This book is a great read. It's a sleeper most would overlook, but once into the pages, it grabs you and holds you until the end. The dialogue moves the action and the action is a roller-coaster of surprises that will keep you turning pages as the plot rips along with murder, intrigue, double-crosses, and even a sex slave-something for every reader. This book is a riveting story incorporating historical detail of World War II. Well done, Bonnie Toews. It has my five-star recommendation.

TREASON & TRIUMPH is one of those novels that sneaks up on you, tricks you with sly surprises, then hits you in the gut with a roundhouse punch. In the style of Ken Follet and Allen Furst, this WWII tale of intrigue, espionage, heroism, love and betrayal has a cast of believable characters and a layered plot that will keep you guessing to the end.
The discerning reader will also note that Ms. Toews has done her homework. The WWII locales, events, and historical figures are drawn with painstaking accuracy. As the title implies, this novel hits all the buttons — romance, despair, suspense, joy, and, of course, triumph. Be prepared to shed several buckets of tears.
This is historical fiction at its best. Let’s hope more is on the way.
