It’s the last day of May. School is out and the North Town High School graduation ceremony is tonight. Beau, the Valedictorian, has waited until the last minute to write one of the most important speeches in his life but he finishes it just before leaving two hours early for graduation. His parents, Drew and Stephen are busy planning a celebration for after the ceremony. Beau’s parents, older sister Katy, and his younger twin siblings, Robbie and Maria, are obviously excited about tonight and have made it known how extremely proud of him they are. His Uncle Lucian and Aunt Denise, along with their three children, would be bringing Beau’s grandparents, Alexandria and Carl Soulz, and his great-grandparents, Robert and Mary Calloway to the ceremony. The whole family as well as many of his friends and acquaintances would be there to cheer him on. Beau’s favorite class in school was Public Speaking, yet he was feeling terribly anxious and with the anxiety came a terrible headache. Nervously he tapped his ballpoint pen on his computer desk and stated boldly, “I have nothing to fear. I will stand tall and deliver my speech with honor and pride. Tonight will be a night I will never forget.”
Neither will anyone else.

An excerpt from Chapter 3 - just enough to keep you guessing!
Beau entered his room and finished getting dressed. He was stunning in his black suit and red tie. He quietly opened his bedroom door and tiptoed over to his parent’s bedroom. The door was open so he stood there for a minute and watched as Drew was applying her makeup by using the mirror on the bedroom dresser. Stephen stood beside her and struggled with his tie. Drew noticed Beau standing there so she turned to speak to him but he turned and hurriedly made his way out the front door. Stephen followed him to the door but was only able to watch him speed away. Drew hurried to Stephen’s side.
“Is Beau gone?”
“Yeah babe, he must have been in a rush and perhaps a bit nervous. Plus he probably didn’t want to upset you.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot. He thinks I have PMS … Stephen!” she teasingly sassed. “Does he even know what that is?”
“Drew, he’s an 18 year old young man. I think he knows by now.”
“Knows what?” Robbie asked.
“Nothing of any importance,” Drew replied. “Oh my, you are so handsome in that suit. Maria,” she yelled, “Are you nearly ready?”
“Here I am Mom,” she replied as she entered the room wearing her navy blue satin dress and heels to match.
“Well look at my beautiful daughter. You look like a princess. Now, please go stand by your brother so I can take your picture. Look Stephen, we have the most beautiful children in the world,” Drew announced as she snapped several pictures.
“Yes, now tell me something I don’t know,” was Stephens reply.
“Ah, Mom … Come on,” they griped. “We don’t want to pose anymore.”
“Okay, but sit down in the den and don’t get dirty while your Dad and I finish getting ready.”
They hurried to the den and the last thing Drew heard was the TV as they turned on Scooby Doo.
“I wanted Beau’s picture before he left,” Drew whined “but maybe we’ll see him before the ceremony.”
“Maybe,” Stephen said with a smile, “but if not, we’ll get lots of pictures afterwards.”
“Hey, we need to have our picture made. Maria, would you mind taking mine and Daddy’s picture?”
“Okay, she agreed as she took the camera and aimed. “Smile pretty.”
Stephen was looking sharp in his black tuxedo and red tie to match Beau’s. Drew was wearing one of Stephen’s favorite dresses – an ‘off the shoulder’ ankle length white satin dress that fit Drew perfectly in all the right places.
It’s time to go!” Stephen declared. “Everyone head to the van.”
When everyone was out the door, Stephen locked up and extended his hand to Drew.
Drew slipped her hand into his and they walked slowly to the van. They could already hear Robbie and Maria fighting over which radio station to play.
Ignoring them, Stephen escorted Drew to the passenger door, kissed her and declared,
“Wow, you look gorgeous.”
“As do you,” Drew replied with that smile that always melted his heart.
Inside the van, Robbie and Maria were still fussing.
“Enough!” Stephen shouted! “Your mother will choose the radio station. If I hear a complaint you’re grounded for a week - No video games, no TV and no telephone. You will stay in your rooms except when it’s time to eat. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes sir,” they answered with a sniffle.
“Okay, Mom, what’s it gonna be?” Stephen inquired.
“How about ‘Oldies Rock’” Drew replied, knowing that everyone in the van enjoyed that station, thereby keeping the peace.
“Oldies it is!” Stephen replied, turning up the radio to ‘Three Dog Night’ “Joy to the World.
“Perfect!” Drew sighed as everyone sang along.
