Why do I doubt God, when I have chosen to place my trust
in Him?
In Matthew 14:25-32, we read… “And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on
the sea.
(26) And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and
they cried out for fear. (27) But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be
not afraid. (28) And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou; bid me come unto thee on the
water. (29) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water,
to go to Jesus. (30) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he
cried, saying, Lord, save me. (31) And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and
said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
(32) And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
You know…it’s so easy to focus on God, when everything is going well. We can be so excited…lift our
hands to God and feel as though nothing will ever go wrong again but then a storm begins to brew and
the circumstance begins to reveal some overwhelming moments in our lives…moments that we never
thought we’d experience. From there, we seem to become tightly focused on what is happening around
us; that we lose faith and begin to doubt, as we sink beneath the troublesome waves of our problems.
Why do we choose to accept a powerful God, to come and live within us and then when problems arise;
we seek some other source of help? I have found that the only way we are going to be able to overcome
these moments that seem too big for us to handle; is when we choose to focus on where God is leading
us, rather than the weak circumstance that’s standing before us. When we can slow down…weigh out
the problem, in comparison to God’s power; then we will find that God is the only One that is powerful
enough to turn to, during these difficult times. Today, we need to ask ourselves one question… “Why do
I doubt a God that is much greater in power than my circumstance…a God that can allow me to walk
safely through this troubled sea of problems?” When we can come to the place, where we can see God,
as someone that is greater than anything that may enter our lives; then we will find that doubt becomes a
thing of the past, as we reach out to trust in a God that can never fail us.

of us.
When we focus on God, while keeping our eyes away from the stormy waters that surround us; then this
will allow us to walk safely through the troubled waters, with the strength of a powerful God, rather
than drowning beneath the waves of a weak circumstance.
