How do I escape moments of temptation?
In Matthew 26:41, we read… “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit
indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Also in I Corinthians 10:13, we read… “But remember this—the wrong desires that come into
your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems
before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to keep the temptation from
becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what
he says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently
against it.”
Moments of temptation can seem so overpowering, as though we have been captivated within a
situation and can’t find a way out. We can feel so overwhelmed that we feel that it’s easier to
give into these moments that are attempting to have control over our lives but we must remember
that when we choose to follow Satan’s lead; then we are only being led into other moments of
weakness, which only makes our situation much worse.
Isn’t it amazing how these tempting thoughts can make us feel as though there is no place to
escape, from the moments that are attempting to take over our lives? One thing we must do; is to
shift our thoughts in God’s direction and remember that the power of prayer can move any
obstacle that gets in our way. Just speaking the name “Jesus,” is powerful enough to throw evil
back into hell, where it belongs. The problem we tend to have; is that we become so captivated
by what is happening; that we completely bypass the One who can make a way of escape for us.
To me, it’s as if we are traveling down some unknown road and as we are looking for the right
road to take; we begin to get caught up in what is happening around us; to the place where we
miss the exit that God wants us to take.
The only way we are going to be able to escape the clutches of temptation; is when we turn to
God and allow Him to be our remedy and cure, for these overpowering moments. God never said
that we wouldn’t face these moments of temptation but He did say that He would make a way of
escape for us. We need to realize that the only way we are going to be set free from these
moments of temptation; is when we allow God to step in and stomp out the power of evil.

return but when we allow God to walk with us; then He will make a way of escape.
Temptation only captivates our hearts and minds, when we choose to follow its path.
