Brendan waited in the back seat while his stepmother went into the store.
A few minutes later, Holly returned. She put her drink in the cup holder and peeled back the wrapper from a Caramello candy bar. Over the back seat, a young child's voice spoke out.
"I like Cawamello, too."
Holly froze with bewilderment. She looked in the rear view mirror, back at Brendan. He had his index finger hooked half way in his mouth. She turned around to face him.
"What did you say?" she asked.
In a little child's voice, Brendan repeated, "I like Cawamello, too." He blinked his wide-open eyes.
Holly paused, dumbfounded, and bit the inside of her bottom lip. Then, she boldly acted on her hunch.
"What is your name?"
The reply was innocent and direct, "Tommy."
Holly suddenly felt sucked in to a vortex of confusion. She struggled to grasp at reality, but, instead, she was enveloped in a nebulous mass of the illogical.

"Last Door" is a non-fiction work by K. Raven Rozier. Based upon true events, this book takes its readers for a ride into the unknown, facing spiritual questions from the other side.
In the corner of the room, the prayer team looked at one another in shock and astonishment. You never know how people will react in such supernatural situations, when one’s faith is put to such an extreme test. Nevertheless, no one was as stunned as Sean himself that he did not run out of the room like a scared little girl.
Sean’s eyes moved to the wall behind the Satanist where the famous painting of “Christ at the Gate” hung. It should have inspired some profound metaphorical meaning for him, but, instead, it triggered a memory from his childhood. There was a local radio preacher who sold autographed copies of that print. Listeners could send their twenty-five cents to a Post Office Box and receive “Christ at the Gate” signed by Our Lord, Jesus Christ, himself. As Sean recalled, that preacher was not on the airwaves for very long.
While the names of this true story have been changed to protect the identity of the family that endured so much, Rozier manages to keep the reader hooked from the start. She tells the story of Sean and Holly O’Neal, sending shivers to readers and forcing them to feel the dark side of spirituality.
In the beginning of Last Door, Sean removes a demon from a Satanist priest’s body. After this demon removal, Sean goes to the library for more research. He finds that demons can hide themselves in many ways, as if they didn’t want to be discovered. To Sean, this makes sense. A demon would hide itself for as long as possible until confronted by a medium, such as a priest, or in this case, Sean. While Sean puts on a show of knowledge, he is actually terrified of these evil spirits.
The real story begins when Sean’s son from a previous marriage reappears in the O’Neal family. When Sean’s ex-wife decides she doesn’t want to care for Brendan anymore, the O’Neal family takes him in. Over time, this decision proves testing to the family and forces Sean to face his fear of the sinister side of religion and spirituality. Well-written and equally engaging, this story will keep your attention from start to end.
