This is a book composed to shed some light on the two worlds that are currently are war within African American culture. a war waged between the highly educated and the less sophisicated African Americans. Who is right or wrong is not the question, because both sides raises valid pionts in its defense to jusitify its existance. Instead the question is how can the two worlds unite to ensure the possibility to survive as one.

Lawrence McHenry is a young ambitious lawyer from Harvard is looking to make his mark in the court of justice, by riding the backs of his clients he has distain towards that's inspired by his own personal beliefs about African American culture.  Lawrence believe the further he distances himself from the so-called Black experience the better off he'll be. However, he comes across a bump in the road as he face off with one of his most difficult client  ever in DeShawn King.

The love/hate relationship these two men share will keep you captivated throughout the entire novel. Each feels strongly about their views when it comes to defining the essence of African American culture, so strong that neither one is willing to give grounds in their beliefs.
