The book is about a father,who grew up in a rough niehborhood,who is now rich and has kids who don't understand how hard it is to come from nothing to having a lot of money and to teach his kids a lesson he goes back to his old life in the ghetto-which means leaving the big house,the party life style and the so glamarous lifestyle they once had.
Living the rich life is almost everyone's dream, especially the shopping and buying anything you want, along as your parents give you the money for it, as well as going to parties or throwing them. These are the things every child would like to do ... well, some people. For Stella Brooke, her sister, Carol Brooke, and her brother, Steve Brooke, all that is going to be gone in a second. Their parents gave them everything they wanted as long as they did well in school and got good grades - meaning no C's, only A's and B's. If they got a C, that meant they were grounded.
Their father, Dave Brooke, decides that he wants to show his children how hard it is to get this perfect life they seem to have. He doesn't want his children to become spoiled brats. He only wants them be tough and know how hard it is in the world today. That means going back to where he used to live in Dallas, where it was tough growing up and where the gangs and everyday life is.

Hi, my name is Stella Brooke. I used to live in Dallas, but my family and I moved to New York. My brother, Steve, is seventeen. I am sixteen, and my sister Carol is fifteen. We all live with my parents: my mom, Stacy Brooke, and my dad, Dave Brooke. My mom has long black hair and is as tall as my dad. They are both five foot three. My sister Carol has mixed colors in her, hair gold and red. She always likes to dress to perfection and be perfect; everything has to be perfect for her. She always likes to do her best in school. Since she is the baby in the family, meaning the last child, our dad always tries to give her everything she needs. My brother Steve is like this rock-n-roll person. He always listens to rock music. He has five guitars, which our dad bought him, since he always does well in school. Well, last time he got a C- in math, and my mom and dad grounded him for only a month. I know our parents sound strict, but they really are not strict. They let us go to parties or have them, and also let us go to the beach with our friends, but only if we have good grades and we behave well at all times. Anyway, back to my brother. His hair is always up in spikes. He always wears long sleeves; then on top of that he adds on short sleeves and wears jeans, capris, or black pants.
Now let’s move on to me, Stella Brooke. I have long, black, silky hair. I always have to dress well because I have to look pleasant for me, and yes, I like compliments on how I dress. I’m practically an A student since my parents want everyone to have good grades. I like to go shopping. Shopping is the best thing to make me feel happy when I’m feeling down. My parents know that, so they always give me money when they know I’m down or depressed.

My family and I lived on the rich side of town, and the other side of town was like the opposite side. We had a very nice, simple, rich life. Then all of a sudden, my father said that were moving out of the rich side of town to the other side of town, which I told you is the total opposite of the rich side. My mother and father argued constantly about whether this was a good idea. I heard my father tell my mom he didn’t want us to have a spoiled, rich life and that he wanted us to know how the world really is. Finally, my mom gave in and agreed that we were spoiled and we needed to learn how to be tough enough to survive in the world. So after all this, my parents confirmed that we were moving to the other side of town. My other siblings and I started to argue with our parents, but our dad said we are moving and that was that. Carol ran to her room and started to cry. My brother Steve said, “Fine, okay, Mom and Dad.” And all I said was fine!Ok.
