Citizenship development is the development of citizens to know their rights and responsibilities to their countries. It also involves the development of the potential of individual citizens, for effective participation in nation building.

  The concept of citizenship development states, “Citizens can only realize their full potential and participate in making their citizenship count only by being developed”.

  This implies, every citizen of a nation is a potential to that nation. This potential can either be developed for national utility or left underdeveloped, hereby leaving citizens as liabilities to their nations.

 The concept of citizenship development stems from the understanding that, ‘Each citizen of a nation is a potential building material for that Nation’. This is only possible as individual citizens  developed to contribute their individualities, thereby adding to their nation, knowledge, ideas, inventions, innovations and creations which have never been in their national structures and systems.

      Thus, a nation of 3 million people can only reach her highest zenith if a program of citizenship development is carried out making each citizen in the 3 million people become responsible and developed to the point of making his/her impact to be felt. Imagine the breakthrough such a nation will experience in her politico-socio-economic and cultural evolution as 3 million citizens invest their individualities towards National development; it would be incredible.  Right now, there is actually no nation in the world with a vision to transform every single citizen into  potential Nation builder. This is one of the major crises the global world is facing.

      Billions of human beings are living on earth today totally irresponsible, ineffective, contributing virtually nothing, either in their nation or in shaping the destiny of humanity. Transforming this pool of irrelevant, insignificant, high maintenance and low impact humans living in every society, is the challenge of citizenship development in the 21st century and the 3rd millennium
