Not for the weak at heart. This is an adult science fiction tale, more along the lines of "On the Beach". The approach of a mega asteriod threatens Earth...and the solution may not be any better...
It's a soulless mass of iron and frozen hydrogen gas, as large as the North American continent, heading at us like a runaway cosmic Mack truck. But, not to fear. The government has a plan. Only thing is, last time they tried to use that technology, they nearly destroyed the entire universe...
I think what frightens me most about this novel is how more and more of what was science fiction when I wrote this is becoming either science fact or acceptable scientific theory. And, being set in 2012, the President is the first black President. And, in a few years prior to this, in the novel, a very powerful hurricane devistated Luisiana...hmmmmm...

"Deliver us not into evil..." the words seemed to just suddenly appear in Brian's tired mind. He released another of those half insane chuckles. "Fer sure," he thought. "Deliver us a miracle, 'cause evil is winging its way toward us like a bat out of hell."
Unless the Feds had been keeping it mighty damn secret Brian suspected that they had no defense against something like this. Billions upon billions had been spent developing ever more advanced military defense systems to protect our lives from the "enemy". The government had an immense arsenal of air, sea, and shore weapons to defend against almost any conceivable threat. ALMOST ANY! Yet even after decades of warnings from those who were in the know, Brian suspected that the "powers that be" had overlooked...no, ignored...one of the most dangerously obvious threats to the existence of life...of human kind...that there was. Unwanted celestial visitors.
Brian laughed out loud. "We have met the enemy," he chortled, "and the enemy didn't really give a doodley damn." What, he mused, could be more frightening than an enemy that did not care? One that had no brain? No cognizant thought? No feelings? It was, after all, nothing more than a big rock. A big, frozen , out of control celestial Mack truck, careening through the vastness of space with no regard to its own future or anything else's.
Brian shivered at this thought. Then he chuckled again as he pondered the chaos that must be running through the corridors in Washington. "What shall we do?" he pictured President Alexander wandering aimlessly through the White House. "Whatever shall we do? The sky is falling! The mother fucking sky is for real and surely falling! Whatever shall we do?"
Brian spit all over himself as he was racked with an uncontrollable fit of wild laughter. Then the realization hit home. The sky WAS falling...
