She gives it a try and along her journey she stumbles a bit but never falls and finds herself starting a new chapter at love again.
Excerpt
Shanae let herself in with the spare key that Jarrell always left for her underneath the door mat. She sat her purse down on the table that was next to the door and walked further into the house, the entire downstairs was dark except for the tiny bit of light emitting from over the kitchen stove. She didn’t bother checking his den because she knew that he wasn’t in there, so she made her way up the stairs to his bedroom. The sound of laughter greeted Shanae when she made it to the top of the stairs, thinking that it was probably just the TV she continued down the narrow hall to Jarrell’s room. The closer she got the voices became louder and began to sound as if there was an actual conversation going on but it wasn’t coming from the TV. Not wanting to believe what she was hearing Shanae stood outside the door and listened to Jarrell tell someone that he loved them and wanted to only be with them. Then she heard a female’s voice ask him about what he planned to do to get rid of her.
“I’ll think of something.” She heard him say.
“What is it exactly about her that you don’t like?” The female asked.
“Everything,” Jarrell answered. “She just doesn’t satisfy me like you do. She’s so boring and can’t fuck worth a damn.”
They both laughed at Shanae’s expense.
“Well you won’t have to worry about that anymore baby, because I’ll see to it that you’re always satisfied.”
“I like the sound of that.”
That was the last thing Shanae heard before it grew quiet and the sound of tongues being shared took over. Raging with anger Shanae kicked open the door startling both Jarrell and the female he was with. Jarrell struggled to cover himself when Shanae clicked the light switch on.
“You’re supposed to be sick right?” She asked, fire blazing in her eyes.
“Oh shit Shanae.”
“That’s right Jarrell try and make up a lie to explain this shit.” She looked over at the female lying next to him she looked like she wasn’t any older than eighteen years old.
“Shanae baby I…I can explain.” Jarrell stuttered as he tried to get out of the bed. “I was trying to tell you on the phone that you didn’t have to come over -”
“Save it Jarrell I through with you tired ass.”
“Shanae baby wait a minute.” He had grabbed her arm.
“You better take your hands off of me before you lose something precious.”
He let her go. Shanae stormed down the hall refusing to let him see her tears, why would someone go through all that trouble to lie? That question never leaving her mind as she hurried down the stairs.
“Shanae…Shanae wait.” Jarrell had caught up to her at the door.
“Leave me alone liar.”
“Listen to me baby.”
Hearing him call her baby use to make her all girlish but now it just made her sick to her stomach. Ignoring his attempts to make her listen to him Shanae called Peaches and told her what happened.
“Oh no Shanae are you ok?” She asked.
“I just need a ride home can you please come and get me?”
“Yeah sure. I’ll be there in a few just try to stay cool ok?”
“Alright.” Shanae dropped her phone back into her purse and walked down the street until she came across a bus stop. She sat there waiting for Peaches.
