“Sienna Russell.” William repeated the words. “I recognize that name. You’re the old woman’s niece.”
William nodded his head knowingly, then looked at his partner Carl.
“This ain’t too good, man.” Carl shook his head. “I thought your cousin Janice told you it had been years since the two of them had seen each other.”
“Yes, that is what she told me. So it had to be very recently that the little lady here developed a strong enough interest to climb the fence we put up and nose around on private property.” “Private property!” Sienna could not hold her tongue. “Property that you acquired by tricking an old woman who never did you or anyone else any harm.” She pointedly looked from one face to the next, her gaze finally resting on Hawk’s veiled features. “So all of you. should feel really good and manly after accomplishing such a great thing.”
“What are we going to do with her, William?” Anxiety laced Carl’s words. “She’s been in there listening to everything and has the whole thing recorded on tape. And as feisty as she is, she’s not going to keep quiet.”
“You’re damn right. I’m not.” Sienna’s voice trembled with emotion as she crossed her arms protectively in front of her.
“We’re going to have to see about that.” William pronounced each word slowly. “Maybe we can help convince you that keeping quiet is the right thing to do. As a matter of fact, I can think of a lot of things that might convince you, and some of them would be a helluva lot of fun. At least for me they will. “Spike . . William flicked his finger in the bald-headed man’s direction.
Before Sienna knew what was happening, the large man had her up in his arms and was carrying her toward the familiar twin-size bed.
“No! No! What are you doing?” she screamed as he threw her onto the lumpy mattress, then put his knee on the bed beside her. With a satanic grin on his face. Spike’s gigantic hand reached for the neck of her blouse.
“This has gone far enough.” The low, silky voice reached her from the other room. “I didn’t come here to be part of a rape, so you . . . What do they call you. Spike? Whatever your name is, you need to get up off that bed and leave the woman alone.”
Spike slowly turned his head in Hawk’s direction, then his eyes strained to see his boss.
William’s mouth hung open as he stared at Hawk.
“Carl, that’s it. I don’t know where you picked up this sucker, but I am not taking nothing else off him.” He spoke through gritted teeth, then pointed his finger at Hawk. “You shut the hell up. You don’t run nothing around here...."
