The book is aimed at boys and girls ranging in age from 5 to 8, although younger children can still enjoy being read to from the book and some older may like it too. There is also a selection of entirely new stories in the back, aimed at younger children, along with an illustrated joke book section.
Excerpt
Mr Bumble was a funny old wizard. He lived in a rickety little wooden house up a huge oak tree, in the middle of a large forest. Usually the forest would be lush and green, but now the leaves were autumn orange and reddish brown, and ripe fruit dropped from the trees. The good witch Greta Gumboot didn’t live too far away, but he never visited her, or any of her animal friends. He was always too grumpy to socialise. None of his spells ever went the way he’d planned.
You could say he bumbled them. This made him rather frustrated. For example, there was the time when he tried to clean the scruffy little kitchen in his make shift treetop home. The room had tiny little wooden cupboards and a magic, drain away to nowhere sink. The sink was a result of one of his few successful spells. At least it looked successful to him. If you were to venture to the old quarry at the other side of the woods, you would find a particularly large puddle of very dirty dishwater.
The day in question, Mr Bumble came up with a spell that he thought was perfect for kitchen cleaning, so he said it out loud,
“Huffin, puffin, blow away dirt,
My make kitchen as clean, as a freshly washed shirt.”
An enormous gust of powerful wind blew through his little treetop home. Potion bottles, plates, and cups smashed everywhere, and books flew all about. Even the spoons ended up bent. Mr Bumble went bright red. You could almost see steam coming out of his ears.
“Blast!” he yelled, “That was a perfectly good spell.”
“Arrgg” he mumbled shaking his fists almost comically.
