Prologue
Everybody has a story of love that personifies the best of the good and worse of the bad times in life. And every human being is important regardless of their station in life. Unfortunately, many characters depicted in the following pages are a consequential sideshow to the following characters.
Antoine Reed, aka Ant, is a recovering heroin addict. Equipped with a community college psychology course, he opens an alcohol and drug safe house. As his organization evolves, his ambitions become self serving. He pimps the most vulnerable; and assists the most despicable, extorting their ill-gotten wealth for personal gain.
Jeremiah Thomas, aka, Jerry, is a man of God, but Antoine's partner in addiction. He possesses the gift to preach so listeners are convinced in the reality of the Holy Spirit. After a bout in prison he prepares to step out of his own way and surrender ito this calling.
Tyrone Walters, aka, Turk, also a man of God, tries to live right, but issues of malcontent keep rising against his good intentions. An internal battle rages inside as his prayers for a better life seem to go unanswered. When he takes matters into his own hands, the resulting guilt and frustration leads him to relapse. It's a drug mission he might not regroup from.
Michael Dursee, aka, Champ, is the protagonist. After a chain of unforgettable events in his life, he locks God out of his heart, vehemently cursing His existence. Even so, it is God who directs his steps in overcoming an addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs. His cynicism becomes maniacal as he questions what God has to do with anything, much less recovery.
Nyima Robbins is a newcomer to California and has been running from adversity quicker than a runaway slave. Homeless, she ends up at the facility's door and agrees to assist them in obtaining an ADP license. She believes God directs the mission that's legitimize the group's entrepreneurial venture. She is scrutinized by the diverse population, until they realize she may have been heaven sent.
It's the nineties and these five individuals, each strong in their own right, are brought together for reasons beyond their actual comprehension. They all share one thing in common. . .a history of substance abuse. Together they initiate a mission to rehabilitate, while being rehabilitated themselves. For a moment in time, a spiritually magnetic force becomes a reality in the midst of an impoverished drug infested neighborhood.
