Satan: A Dog's Story
The thin thread of life that weaves one living creature to another in a fabric of love, of companionship, of adoration, of sacrifice and sustenance is a fragile thing. Its grip is at the same time tenuous and eternal. Satan's giant head rested peacefully in Kurt Jeffries' lap, the way he his own head had rested in her lap. The three of them were complete, fully connected in a way that made his art become magic. She was gone now and Jeffries had to find a way to let them both slip away, all the while holding on to that thin thread of what was most dear.
This was so much more than helping an old friend though. Before Satan could take his last breath, Kurt had to make sure that he himself was ready to let both of them go. It was letting go of a part of his life defined by supreme love; a triangle of love, his for a woman whose eyes seemed to be within the eyes of the dog that adored them both, a dog that saved his life again and again, a dog who loved the man whose life was motion until the three of them collided and made life suspend its chaos for the moment they all shared. It was time. It was the right thing to do. That did not make it acceptable.
