I was a mournful day when Hannah fell ill. There were no doctors in Cane Brake City so the women in town could only apply the potions and elixers and poultices with herbs that they had learned to prepare back in the mountains of Tennessee and Georgia where they had been raised....
Early one morning, Hannah's spirit left her small body....
