Can a city truly be evil?
Jeffrey Weeks’ new novel Lafayette follows Milton Howard, a strip club owner on the shadiest street of a corrupt southern town. Growing up in a haven of vice and sin he somehow manages to forge together a makeshift family of sorts, even as he commits unspeakable crimes in an effort to hold his bar and his little neon world together.
Into the mix comes Tabitha Van Doren, a Yankee prosecutor brought to the city of Lafayette by the DA to persuade Milton to turn traitor against his own dark associates. But just who is playing who? In a city ravaged by moral decadence loyalties continually turn…like the hands on the clock tower than looms over the streets of this soul-scarred land.
Full of shocking twists and deadly turns Lafayette is a novel that takes you into dark corners and ask the question: is the evil in the man, or is it in the city itself.
Lafayette is based on the city of Fayetteville, NC where Jeffrey grew up, and the history surrounding the area of Hay Street and downtown Fayetteville from the 1970s through the early 1990s.
