“You don’t hit girls ever, promise?” She said to him in a strangely firm voice. She struggled not to be angry with him and it shook him.
“I promise,” he said and he meant it. Aunt Mae had never been mad at him before.
“Good,” she was satisfied, “you know you’re better than that, Joe Indigo, you are a protector, you were sent to protect people not to hurt them, ” Aunt Mae patted his hand with her soft frail one. He liked it, her touch held forgiveness and understanding.
