In ye olden days, the medical opinion was that it was safe to masturbate only if males stood on their heads during it. Which makes quite a funny image. In the late 1800's a physician advised the father of a boy with epilepsy, it was the result of too much masturbation and removed the teenager's testicles. In the movie The Cement Garden, a mother, modern day basically, advised her son he lost a third of his blood each time, and might kill himself. That had a happy ending. Mom died.
