Dezi Gianni arrived in Virginia Beach again for the first time in more than twenty years. Big D was there to meet him. He had to actually walk up and introduce himself.
“Wow!” Big D exclaimed. “I didn’t even recognize you man!” he grinned, as they embraced.
Dezi smiled and told him that was a good thing.
“That means no one else will either,” he replied.
At least not until I want them too, Dezi thought. They arrived at Big D’s apartment, went in, and made themselves comfortable.
“Man!” Big D told Dezi, looking at him. “It’s good to see you again,” he went on. “I was so glad to hear from you and know you weren’t really dead all those years ago.”
Dezi told him he knew he could trust him to keep his secret, and thanked Big D again for sending the photos of his son, and Kayla.
“Tell me about the boy’s mother,” he said quietly.
Dezi remembered Liv from the hotel, and their daily sex sessions. He also remembered how cold and heartless he’d been to her about her possible pregnancy. Big D sighed deeply thinking about Liv.
“She was a good woman,” he said simply and Dezi knew he’d cared for her intensely.
“She did a helluva job raising that boy,” Big D went on. “She was good people,” he told Dezi. “I actually loved her a lot,” Big D finished sadly.
“Did you pay the debt?” Dezi asked, looking at him evenly.
“In spades,” Big D said coldly. “They buried his ass a week after they buried her,” he finished, the hatred still raw in his words.
“So man,” Big D began, looking at Dezi. “What name are you going by now?”
“Dante Enzo,” he replied smoothly.
“Why’d you pick that?” Big D asked, thinking it was an odd name.
“Because,” he began. “In Italian, Dante means lasting, and Enzo means winner,” Dezi finished chuckling lightly.
Big D got it, and began to laugh too.
