Excerpt

From the introduction:
Modern medicine is finally catching up with the wise man King Solomon, who, several thousand years ago said, “A
merry heart doeth good like a
medicine.” (Proverbs 17:22)

Solomon gave us another proverb that is not as well known but perhaps even more profound that says, “He that is of
a merry heart has a continual feast.” (Proverbs 15:15) Life can be one big
party says the King when you have a merry heart, or in modern terms, “a cheerful disposition.”

Having a cheerful nature or disposition would include seeing the humor in stressful situations and learning to lighten up and not take ourselves so
seriously.

These, plus an optimistic, cheerful attitude work together like magic in relieving the everyday, unrelenting, life threatening stress that comes our way.

Modern research proves what Solomon and many more of us have known all along – A lighthearted attitude and generous amounts of humor can help us to live longer and better.

Almost 700 years ago, French surgeon, Henri de Mondeville (1260-1320),
wrote, "Let the surgeon take care to regulate the whole regimen of the
patient's life for joy and happiness, allowing his relatives and special friends to cheer him, and by having someone tell him jokes."
