Unicorns, sorcerers and sorceresses, elves, space aliens, plus more are all here. Eight fantasy tales where the reader will be taken from drab reality into worlds of adventure, danger, action, and suspense.

Eight stories of  fantasy :

"Mistress of Magic." A TV illusionist comes across a wand that  has real magical powers.  But the wand leads her to a world about to be destroyed.  With the wand, she has the power to save the world...but loses the wand during a nearby volcanic eruption.  What's more, without the wand she has no way to return to Earth.

"Beasts of the Outlands."Strange beasts mysteriously appear in territory of the Komandi tribe.  Trynt, a high level shaman is sent into the outlands to investigate.  He encounters very dangerous beasts...and an alien from a distant world.

"The Elves vs the Aliens" Earth's wee people, Elves, fairies, and pixies, learn that aliens from a distant planet plan to invade Earth.  Knowing that Earth's mortals do not have the means to deal with the invaders, the wee people decide to fight them.  But they find that even their magic might not be enough to deal with the high tech machines and weapons of the aliens.

"Elfenwurl."An alcoholic ex nightclub comedian becomes king of the elves, but a struggle ensues when he is challenged by a powerful little elf.

"Wild Magic." The chief wizard gives up on trying to school Carma because of her errant magic and sends her home.  But later, it is because of that same errant magic that  the chief wizard sends her on an important quest.

"The Black Star."A man is tricked into accepting a ring with a terrible death curse on it.  To get rid of the curse, he must find someone who willingly accepts the ring.  The person need not be told of the curse.  The man refuses to trick anyone into accepting the ring--except for one person--the one who tricked him.

"Lady of Illusions."Helen and her younger cousin sneak into her uncle's lab where he has invented a dream machine, but still in the experimental stage.  She and her cousin play with the machine and end up in a strange dream world, and don't know how to return to reality.

"The Kidnapped Unicorn." Young wizard Brennan is sent on a quest to retrieve a unicorn stolen from the prince by rebels, led by the powerful and evil wizard  Mandrel.  Brennan finds his way to the rebel hideout deep in a forest and pretends that he wants to join them.  But he finds that Mandrel has ways of testing his recruits for loyalty.

Excerpt

From "Wild Magic" (Carma's quest to rescue the captured prince)

If her plan went well, she should gain entry to the castle without using a spell. True, she had no residual spell-vibes that could be detected by Rhonian wizards, but this close to the castle a spell of any kind might be detected by them. She would use magic only as a last resort...
...She dismounted from the carriage and walked through the tower entrance. She surprised the door sentry, who had apparently been dozing. He jumped up from his chair.
“You there! Where do you think you’re going?”
She flashed a smile. “I’m dancing at Lord Bolan’s party tonight.”
“You’ll not find him here. My orders state that no one enters the tower. No exceptions.”
The sentry was wearing his sword, but his cudgel was leaning against the wall next to his chair. She noticed that he wore no helmet.
“I must have misunderstood,” she said. “But I thought the party was at the tower.”
“Parties are held at the banquet hall over on the east side of the castle. Ask the sentry over there for directions.”
“Thank you so much.”
As she turned to go, she dropped several coins on the floor. “Oh dear me!”
As the sentry stooped to pick up the coins, she grabbed the cudgel and brought it down on his unhelmeted head. He fell to the floor in a heap. He would be out for a long while, she guessed.
She climbed the spiral stairway leading to the top of the tower. At the top of the stairs, she encountered a heavy wooden door. She paused a moment to catch her breath. What would she do now?
She could summon a spell to unlock the door--such a spell would be too simple to go wild--but the magic might alert the wizards inside. Her element of surprise--her only real advantage--would be gone.
Perhaps if she spelled the door open and stormed in quickly enough, she might catch them off guard. But how many were inside? How quickly would they react? She had to consider that there were at least two highly trained, experienced wizards on the other side of that door.
