Excerpt
I run ahead until I get to the base of the sand hill. It's so big; I can't see over the top. And it's the length of a football field.
Should we start at the top or the bottom?" Squirt asks when she catches up.
"You take the top. I'll take the bottom."
Squirt rolls her eyes and starts climbing. She goes up, sending trails of sand sliding down. I step out of the way and find a spot at the base and start digging. I find nothing. But then I uncover something black and smooth. When I brush away more, I find scales. My breath catches. I realize this is something ginormous, and it's taking up the entire space of the hill. I'm about to tell squirt, but then the whole thing starts to move. An avalanche of sand tumbles down as the hill rises. My heart thunders while the rest of the sand slides down, revealing a writing snake-like monster. Ikuchi!
