The room appeared crowded. Familiar faces swam before her eyes. Jake and his parents, his mother looking grim, his father strangely stiff, stood at the front. A nervous smile made Jake's face look artificial as if, along with the new suit, he had donned a mask for the wedding...
Strains of the wedding march, played on the upright piano at the side of the room, called the assembled crowd together. Carla looked from her father to Andy and then across the room to Jake where he waited for her....
Her feet were glued to the floor and her father tugged at her arm...
