Vontinuum is a stunning work. A stunning place. Stunning is actually the wrong word entirely; the opposite of that is actually more apropos. It's awakening.
Not too coincidentally, it brings Kenneth Patchen's 'Sleepers Awake' somewhat to mind.
It brings to mind almost all the unconventional literature I've supped from in 54 years. Kenneth Patchen is an author from the 40's and early 50's -hard to find nowadays, but he existed, did the work, and had his heirs. Generations.
Vontinuum [likewise] activates, indeed, and more acutely and accurately than I've known before. Ten years of aggregate work may be impossible to meassure in many ways, but it's substantive worth is as well for all it's endless substantive effect. Substance.
If Kenneth Patchen is cotton candy and Pynchon's 'Gravity Rainbow' is like gnawing through oak, here's the middle ground... Written better at that!
Good writing is almost never easily done but the best looks so. I love to believe it was when I come across such.
