Swede then looked at a wide-eyed Phillip Reardon and shouted, “You son-of-a-bitch, you tricked me - have fun in hell!” he yelled before shooting him point blank between the eyes. Phillip Reardon’s body rolled back out of the chair and then to the floor with his mouth wide open – his last unspoken words still on those now unmoving lips.
Thank God for Joe, because I was still trying to find my gun and get Peter Blade’s body off me - I couldn’t do anything! Joe had his pistol out and already pointed at the back of Swede Anderson’s head before Swede ever knew it.
“Drop it, Swede,” Joe yelled cocking his gun.
Swede thought a minute, glanced over his shoulder at Joe, then back at Billy Rock - before shooting Billy twice in the chest. Joe’s bullet into the back of Swede Anderson’s head was timely, but not timely enough to save Billy Rock. Billy Rock died where he sat and Swede Anderson fell across the table and into his lap – they left this world together, I guess!
Then the bar got very quiet, if you could ignore the screaming jukebox.
