After they become acquainted, she takes him to her home where he's made welcome. He has no idea that the young woman's father knew his own father, Jason Grego, and was helped by him on one of his time travels.
While on the island, he decides to stay for a while and attend a police academy to be come an investigator. This is arranged by Ted Parker, the richest man on the island, who is also Linda's, father.
Michael's first case after graduation centres on an old diary he finds, describing a 26 year old murder case...a murder involving members of his own family. He has as also been granted the gift of time travel by the same entity that bestowed it on his father, Jason. Thus using this gift, he travels back to the time when the murder was committed by some very dangerous rich men, and 'upstanding citizens' of the island. He realizes the danger of taking on these men as they will stop at nothing to keep their crime hidden.
Will Michael come back alive from the past and solve this case?
Excerpt
IT WAS A CLEAR NIGHT was a clear night and all of the stars could be seen shining brightly in the sky. The heavens were giving off their earthly praises to all of humanity. A feeling of peace and contentment filled my soul. Seeing these stars gave me the motivation and courage to make decisions that would affect my entire life. It was time for me to retire but my mind was racing of all the possibilities that could come my way if I make the right decisions for my future. Sneaking back into the house like a thief in the night, I ran upstairs, took my clothes off and then jumped in my bed. In brief moments, in my dream, I changed locations to a room in an old mansion that looked like it belonged to the Civil War Era. There was a big mirror and to my bewilderment, it made me reflect on my future. Who is the man looking in the mirror? What am I going to accomplish with my life? Do I let my family pick my future or do I pick out my own? Oddly David Colter appeared to me. Thinking for a moment, I realized that he helped my father with all of the time travel. With an open mind and contrite sprit, it was time to listen to this heavenly being. It was time to ask him questions that might be used as a guide for me.
“You are David Colter; you are the man that helped my father during all of his time travel.”
“Yes that’s me; I’ve come to give you a message from our creator.” David said with a look of devotion to his cause.
“What kind of message are you to deliver to me?”
“Very soon, your father is going to bestow the power of time travel. You must use this gift with prudence. If you don’t, the gift as I have described it will be removed from you.”
“What’s with the Civil War Era house?”
“Before I took the calling the god has given, this was my house as a mortal. I fought was a civil war soldier.”
Before I knew it, I heard my mother yelling at me to come to breakfast while waking up from this visionary dream.
“Son, it’s time for breakfast.” My mother called in a scolding tone
“I will be right there mom.”
While walking to the kitchen, I found an old journal lying on the shelf. It was dusty and smelt like mildew. In bewilderment, I opened the pages and looked at one of the journal entries that were July 13, 1425. This date entered in this old journal had to be wrong thinking to myself. Was this a mistake or was my family hiding a deep family secret? With the journal still in my hand, my surrounding totally changed. I found myself among a group of people dressed in old style clothing. There was a woman tied and bound to a pole. There was wood stacked around her and a man with an angry look on his face lit the wood surrounding this poor woman. Looking closer I noticed that he eyes were completely white with no pupils. Fangs were visible from her mouth as her screams could be heard.
“Burn witch burn!” The crowd yelled with frenzied excitement.
In a split second, I then found myself deep inside of a jail. My mother was in a cell and looked like she was awaiting her turn to being burnt at the stake. My father went inside of the cell and miraculously turned the both of them into mice, and quickly scurried out of the cell. Mere moments later, a scornful voice blared out at me from the bottom of the stairs.
“Michael, put that journal back where you got it this instant!” Mom yelled with a very pissed expression on her face.
