A Note from the Author
Dear Parent,
Christmas is a wonderfully busy time. Keeping our children’s focus
on the real purpose of Christmas can be quite challenging. Like you, I
wanted my children to remember why we celebrate Christmas. I never
wanted them to think it was all about getting presents or Santa Claus.
Out of those desires this book was born. Our family has enjoyed this
Advent tradition for several years. Now I have the opportunity to share
it with your family. Starting on December 1, each day has a devotion
of how a symbol of Christmas reminds us of Jesus. Each devotion has a
saying and a verse. Christmas Day does not have a devotion. Our family
enjoys reading the Christmas story from the Bible Christmas morning.
As you go through your preparations and celebrations, you can
talk about the things you see that you have read about in Christmas Is
about Jesus. Reading the daily story will have far greater impact if, as
commanded in Deuteronomy 6:7, you “impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk [or drive]
along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” (NIV) I hope
your family will enjoy and be blessed this and every Christmas season.

It might seem a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but Advent will be here before we know it, along with all the hustle and bustle that goes along with that time of year. “Christmas is About Jesus” is a lovely little book that will help children (and their parents) focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Each day from December 1st through the 24th features a Scripture verse and a reflection on a symbol of Christmas and how that symbol reminds us of Jesus. Some of the symbols covered include snowflakes, candy canes, ornaments, St. Nicholas, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, cookies, songs, and stars. As the days get closer to Christmas, the devotions focus on those who were at the first Christmas – the wise men, shepherds, Mary, and the most important one of all, Jesus.
The book is attractively designed and easy to use. It could be used at home or as part of a religious education class. The reflections could be used alone or combined with a craft for a longer lesson. “Christmas is About Jesus” will help keep minds focused on Jesus during the Advent season.
