Written by retired English psychiatrist Dr Audrey Coatesworth, it is her latest book of poetry. A remembered voice
I had a song in my head
Like an echo from the past
I cannot turn back time
And it didn’t last
Yet, the voice sang to me
As if someone had sent
A message, not by letter
But by what the sender meant
The song was one the singer
Could not have ever known
It wasn’t written at the time
So that tune she couldn’t own
How strange it was to listen
To the voice from days gone by
Yet, somehow it was remembered
And I didn’t even try
Oftentimes, I blurt out to friends and/or family a bit of obscure knowledge and hear the question, "Where did you learn that?" Most often, my answer is, "I don't know. It's just something I picked up along the way."
And now I know how to answer: "How strange it was to listen to the voice from days gone by, yet somehow it was remembered, and I didn't even try."
With that kind of answer, I'll probably get more stares. But what the hell! I love that I often have "A remembered voice."
