17 sonnets and 17 illustrations tell the story of one man's poetic journey through time as his blunderbuss gun backfires and transports him 600,000,000 years into Earth's past. His only escape is to shoot his way forward to return home.

Written by David Shapiro | Illustrated by Christopher Herndon

Colonel Victor Von Vector has a blunderbuss gun with a peculiar recoil.  When he shoots, he gets kicked back in time 600 million years to the Cambrian Period.  With each subsequent shot, Victor moves through geologic time, encountering beasts of the past and wandering through the varied environments that have colored Earth’s history.  Utilizing the Shakespearian sonnet as his means of record, Victor’s journey from Cambrian, to Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary, Pleistocene, Holocene, and back to his home time of the Edwardian is presented in 17 poems and 17 illustrated plates. Excerpt

Blunderbuss Wanderlust: Being an Account of the Temporal Travels of Colonel Victor Von Vector and the Eras of his Ways

Victor am I and I traveled through time
Due to my recoiling blunderbuss gun
Gifted to me from an old friend of mine
This friend had a strange sense of what is fun

From my study, on a blooming spring day
I shot for the trees, no target to aim
The recoil sent me well out of my way
Six hundred million years ago I claim

How do I know, I will tell unto thee
Tales of the creatures I saw with my eyes
When first I fell in the Cambrian Sea
I could not breathe and I thought I would die

Took a moment, and look'd all around
In a place where Trilobites did abound
