A solid, serious, superb, novel, not for the squeamish or faint of heart.

In the middle of the night, our unnamed protagonist wakes to find Diana's gun pointed at his head and he recognizes bloody murder in her eyes. While facing a scorned woman's wrath, many of his past entanglements replay in his mind. Memories of women he has loved or refused to love surface like ghosts from the grave to haunt what could be his last moments. As he tries to reason with her for the sake of everything he has to live for, he realizes that there is so much that he deserves to pay for. Love, guns, sex and bullets can all be deadly in the worng hands.

Excerpt

Diana & the Gun - PART 1

I jumped so suddenly from my sleep that I couldn't remember what I had been dreaming. I don't know how she'd gotten into my apartment in the middle of the night. I don't know why I didn't hear her walk into my bedroom. I don't know how she even managed to lift the handgun that looked heavier than she was or why she had it pointed at me. Everything just seemed surreal as she ranted on and on in a freakishly super villain-sounding monologue. Her threats were riddled with weird emotional outbursts, delivered in a murderous tone, all swirling around in a hurricane of rage and tears. I guess it served me right for being arrogant enough to assume that she would go away quietly when I decided to break things off between us.
"Put the gun down Diana!" I yelled, even though I was sure that she wouldn’t listen. Judging by the way she had been talking for the past fifteen minutes, she sounded prepared to use it, first on me and then on herself. Still, it was worth trying to talk her out of it. I definitely didn't want to die but the initial panic had subsided. The only thing left was the peaceful acceptance that this was going to happen, whether or not I wanted it to. I can't even explain or fully understand why I was so calm, considering that I was facing my own execution. The half-empty bottle of Wray & Nephew, over-proof, Jamaican white rum on my nightstand probably had a lot to do with that.
"Don't yell at me! I'm the one with the gun!"
"Ok, so let me ask you nicely. Put the gun down, please. Better?" I asked sarcastically. Obviously it wasn't better because she stormed over to where I was sitting on the edge of my cozy, queen-sized bed and pressed the barrel against my forehead. At least she looked good doing it, dressed as she was in a tight, black, party dress under her black, leather jacket. Her high heel shoes made her six inches taller which was six inches sexier. For a split second, I forgot to hate her. I could smell that she wore the perfume that I liked on her too. I had already sworn to myself that I would never sleep with her again but if she hadn't been trying to kill me, I might have touched her everywhere she liked and eventually gave her what she usually wanted. I hate to admit it but there was something wildly sexy about her standing over me with the gun…more so if this was sexplay and not a serious life and death situation.
"Go ahead. Beg me not to kill you," she hissed in a murderous whisper, moving her long black hair out of her face. I remember when I used to love it when she wore that same wet curl look. She twisted her lip gloss-covered, wet looking lips in an angry scowl.
"Why? If you're going do it, you're going do it. Why should I beg?"
"You have that look on your face like I won't," she said and raised the gun high up in the air. I should have tried to grab her arm then, a mistake I would regret in a second because what followed was the barrel of the gun smashing against the side of my head. I suppose that love tap was meant to show me how firm she was in her resolve. My brain felt like it shook loose and bounced around like a football inside my skull.
"That wasn't necessary," I groaned.
"Yes it was because you still think I'm playing with you. You always think I'm playing with you."
"No, I don't think you're playing with me. I know you're serious. I just don't feel like begging."
"So you don't care if I blow your damn head off?" she asked and bit her juicy lips while she steadied her aim. At such close range she wouldn’t miss and if she pulled the trigger, she would most assuredly splatter my brains all over my bed sheets and pillowcases.
"I care. You think I woke up thinking I was going to get shot today? I'm just not begging you." It would also have been a shame to get blood all over everything. Earlier that evening I had put my best linens on the bed. Of course, that was a miniscule dilemma on my list of problems at the moment but my mind always had a tendency to be plagued with oddly random thoughts at inappropriate times.
"For a man who has always claimed to love his life so much you don't seem to love it so much now."
"This doesn't have anything to do with how much I love my life. Whatever's going to happen is just going to happen. I've always accepted that, even as a kid," I answered defiantly. My perilous predicament made me think back to a time when I had been terrified to die, once upon a time.

A Solid, Serious, Superb Novel
Keith Kareem Williams raised the bar for himself when he began writing "Glass Goddesses, Concrete Walls." And he cleared that bar magnificently. I have been an avid reader of Williams' work since the first book I picked up over a year ago, and he has continued to amaze me.

In this story, the unnamed main character, while faced with an emotionally distraught and dangerous woman, recollects some of the women he has encountered throughout his life. He examines each relationship with the benefit of hindsight, as we all do, and in vivid, sometimes unflattering detail. Throughout the recollections, he is brought back to the present by the woman waving a gun in his face and threatening the unthinkable. He knows he's a smooth talker, but can he talk his way out of this predicament?

Written with the raw honesty of an author who is completely in touch with his own voice and style, this gripping novel depicts some of the most unfortunate and even detestable aspects of what people think and do when relationships don't work out the way they wanted...or thought they wanted. Williams clearly made a conscious effort and plan to approach this novel in a new way, and the final product is a beautiful success. I'm looking forward to reading many, many more novels from this brilliant mind.

A masterpiece, a journey... about love and so much more...
If you pick up this novel you will not want to put it down. So be ready!
Keith Kareem Williams has surpassed his previous titles with this newest book. I felt he gave so much of himself to the reader in the pages. He was transparent. It was as if he were introducing himself to each reader a portion at a time, allowing us to share the situations, good and not-so-good, of his life romances/relationships; situations and experiences that changed him and created the Keith we know today, the one who writes to live and lives to write. Keith went beyond that and created a space for the reader to empathize with his character (the narrator) and the female characters he interacted with throughout the book. The reading was a safe place to experience old memories along with the narrator. Reading brought some serious emotions to the surface for me and I'm sure it will for all who leaf through the pages and remember when, remember who, remember why... it didn't work, or it did... for a while...
I sighed some, cried some, and I understood even more; understood about the ways we love, or lust, having, losing, wanting, longing for, holding onto the wrong thing/person, being loved but not loving, loving but not being loved in return- at least not like you desire or feel you deserve, and not least of all of these was waiting and hoping for loosed love to return... Mmmm... this novel is full of sensuousness, comfort, sadness, sexual awareness, caring, concern, but most importantly it is full of honest representations and "the truth". If you can't handle the truth, it's not for you. Keith lays it open, the heart, the soul, the spirit of lovers, of men, of women... you will see "it" for what "it" is, "love", "need", "fear", "strength", and so much more. It's a masterpiece, a journey.
You will want to read this book more than once. I do. You will want more, but you will not feel thirsty when you close the cover... There's so much in 208 pages you'll be amazed at what Keith Kareem Williams has accomplished. He often references bleeding on the pages as he writes... there's blood here, it's everywhere, it's powerful, it will get on you... Be ready!
