What if you were suddenly thrust from your comfortable, modern-day life back through time 177 years? Back to when there were no cars, computers, phones, or even electricity. How would you adjust to not having a microwave? Or a Tylenol for a headache? Such is the case for free-lance artist, Emma Franklin when upon inheriting the heretofore unknown family farm in MacKinlay, NC, inadvertently stumbles upon a mystery concerning her ancestor, Scottish immigrant, Gavin MacKinlay—the town’s namesake and founder of Golden Apple Farm—the very farm she inherited.
She sets her mind to unravel this mystery, but little does she know that her search will lead her through a rusty iron gate on a moonlit night back into the year 1827.
While there she meets this Gavin MacKinlay, the schizophrenic Mary Ellis—who has set her mind to wed Gavin, Ennis—Gavin’s identical twin brother who combines Mary’s desire for revenge with his diabolical scheme to destroy his brother, and kindhearted Grace—Gavin’s housekeeper who’s not afraid to speak her mind.
Emma seeks to unravel the tangled web of intrigue that would explain why the townspeople of MacKinlay in 2004 hate anything and anyone linked to the MacKinlay name, but with heartbreaking results.
The next full moon brings an end to Emma’s time in 1827. She must return to the future—a task made harder by the fact that she’s fallen in love with Gavin. But the changes in modern day MacKinlay couldn’t be more different and Emma has a job to do before making a decision… a decision that will change the course of her life forever.
