Seduced by the growing amount of cash in his safe, Philip opens a Swiss Bank account with the hope of taking his wife and beautiful daughter Jenny and fleeing the country.
When the mob is apprehended, Philip is offered placement in the Witness Protect Program for his testimony. He is sent to a safe house with a new identity. He calls his daughter to meet him in Los Angeles with the sealed envelope he left in her care.
Jenny is in danger, stalked by a mob member and followed by an FBI agent. Philip is kidnapped by the mob and prepares to die. The devastating 1994 Northridge earthquake interrupts the mob's plans and sends a frantic Jenny on a chase to find her father.

His was the last voice she expected to hear on that stormy January morning. He was allotted one call a month and even then a security inspector, assigned by the Witness Protection Service, had to be present in the adjoining room.
Panic shook her father's voice. "Book a flight on the next plan for L.A." His voice dropped to a whisper. "And bring the envelope with you."
What was of such importance that Dad had forbidden her to open the sealed envelope and what could be so urgent that he was willing to risk calling her? And why must he have the envelope now?

The Witness is a book that holds your attention. When the action starts, it seems that it never stops until the last chapter. Philip Lansing is a fascinating character. Jenny and Alex are complex and their ultimate faith in each other and God is inspiring. You will like this book and it will hold a place on your "keeper" shelf.

I've just read "The Witness" for the second time...the first time because I had to find out what happened...the second time I couldn't put it down because I was so engrossed in the content. Margaret makes her characters truly come to life with much suspense, intrigue and unexpected twists and turns. I lived through the Northridge earthquake so I was kept on pins and needles as that devastating event unfolds on the pages of this exciting book.
