Special Agent Maddison Cade, a Birmingham, Alabama based agent of The Division, an elite but powerful section of the Department of Homeland Security, searches for a killer. Along the way, he stumbles across an old high school buddy, submerged in a world of drugs and deceipt. Cade enlists the man as an informant, but it's really a move to keep an eye on the man so the "successful" agent can rehabilitate the drug user. As the men chase a terrorist, they share parts of their lives with each other. In the end, one man pulls the other from his dark and desperate life to a place he's never seen before. The multiple surpirses will leave many readers questioning their own values and moral convictions.
