I could see that these people were, as was my father, completely free. It was not something intellectualized, as most of us tend to do. It simply “was” for them and they carried an essence that was easily sensed. That essence is beyond words. I’ve often wondered how many others I have come across in the course of my life who also carried that essence. My father’s words; “the price to rise above our human nature is often very high,” have haunted me ever since.
