In 2008 Bill began to write a book about the Korean War featuring stories by combat heroes. Bill called his book, “The Forgotten- Volume One” and flew to Seoul, Korea, in 2009 to deliver the first award winning volume to the President.

OUR HEROES’ STORIES IN THEIR OWN WORDS

THE WAR IN KOREA WASN’T A NOISY AFFAIR. IN FACT it was labeled a “police action” and regarded as necessary but not glamorous. No battle hymns stirred America’s soul. But most veterans returned home with wounds in their souls that would never heal.
Silently our veterans returned home from the war and melded into the fabric of our society. They turned their lives from the horrors of battle to jobs and family. Years quickly passed. Like most veterans before them, they simply put it out of their minds by not talking about it, even to each other, until they reached their senior years.
The veteran’s stories that follow are the thoughts and memories of their military service they wish to share with their children and grandchildren. The stories selected for this volume represent a wide variety of their untold experiences.
Stories continue to arrive from around the country and I am thankful for each one of them. Your story is welcome too. See the invitation included in the Appendix. The goal is to compile additional volumes of “THE FORGOTTEN” series until all the stories received are published and shared.
