They played them all. Those we'd requested and more. We sang, fumbled the words, laughed and danced to the music. Everything from lively swing to heavy metal strut-your-butt and we danced to it all.
We stumbled through an improvised conga line to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", resemembled a hermaphrodite Village People spelling out "YMCA", madly impersonated Janis screaming "Me and Bobby McGee" and what we did when they played "Can't Get No Satisfaction" would have gotten us arrested in some countries.
The words to songs we hadn't heard in years came back to us, bringing their pillowcases full of memories with them. It was like opening your hope chest after years of neglect, letting the dust fly and settle where it may.
