When he was a mortal man many hands had restrained him as he was forced to watch them take from his wife Elisabeth, all she had to give then take her away her life. He learns he can revenge her death if he accepts the power of the night. The power allows him to search for her spirit when it is renewed and she returns to walk the earth again.
When he was given the power of the night his revenge was sweet,as the men that took his love from him fell one by one. He also learned he could search for the spirit of Elizabeth when her spirit returned in a new body.
For hundreds of years he had searched for her and now her call had brought him to St Louis Missouri in the year of 1868. He was late to understand her call and the distance was great so he was saddened to learn she had already married and started a family. This was sometimes the case and if she seemed content he never intervene in the natural life she had chosen.
He learned she was about to head out on a wagon train and staying near her when he could, he became enthralled by the Americans and their excitement to head West. His need for the darkness would make it hard for him join in the adventure and his hope of finding travel was fading as the departure date grew close. However, he had under estimated the powerful forces that had brought him this far and they were ready to intervene.
When he was nearing his rented room he cut through a back alley and he saw a large, round man, apparently attempting to force himself on a smaller, but capable woman. She looked to be somewhere in her early 30s and was for sure, giving him his due.
So to not draw attention, he decided to just watch for a moment, since she seemed to be holding her own rather well.It could be a loves quarrel for all he knew.
While the man sought to subdue the woman before him, little did he know from just beyond the dim light of the lantern steel blue eyes watch his every move.
The eyes that silently watch and the power behind them were more deadly than even the legends of him described.Tonight the watcher holds no mechanical weapon but his six foot, three inch frame carries two hundred fifty pounds of solid muscle, tensed for a fight, the second he determines its time for the balance of power to rapidly shift.
Things for the watcher were about to shift rapidly as well.Figuring since his love for this journey was busy with her own life, he may as well make the best of it.

Little did he know, the ever moving forces that had guided him throughout the ages, were once again, ready to intervene. When he was nearing his rented room he cut through a back alley and he saw a large, round man, apparently attempting to force himself on a smaller, but capable woman. She looked to be somewhere in her early 30s and was for sure, giving him his due. So to not draw attention, he decided to just watch for a moment, since she seemed to be holding her own rather well. After all, for all he knew it could be a lover’s quarrel, both with a craving, for the make up loving to come later.
While the man sought to subdue the woman before him, little did he know from just beyond the dim light of the lantern steel blue eyes watch his every move. The eyes that silently watch and the power behind them were more deadly than even the legends of him described. The eyes of the watcher had stood just outside the light of the campfires and listened as the legends of him were told and re- told. Each retelling would send chills up the spine of the men who worked the silk caravans of ancient China, or traveled along the trade routes to the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Tonight the watcher holds no mechanical weapon but his six foot, three inch frame carries two hundred fifty pounds of solid muscle, tensed for a fight, the second he determines a need to even the odds.
Time had conditioned him to hold the anger that would unleash the rage inside him, exposing to all the true nature of him. However, when the man forced her to the ground, his grubby hand ripping the buttons down the front of her shirt, he decided it was not a game and time to offer the lady a strong hand to even the odds of the struggle. He would just restrain the attacker, he decided, certainly no one would take exception to that, if in defense of a lady.
Her cry of pain, as the back of the attackers hand struck her across the face, shook him from his thoughts, his conditioning and forethought were all for nothing. Suddenly, the woman on the ground was no longer a stranger as a million memories rushed through his mind, igniting hundreds of years of a simmering, bitter rage.
Moving fast thru the darkness, the man never had a chance to even see the red glow of his eyes, nor the extended fangs before he felt strong hands lift him to his feet. The cold fear was yet to register on his sweaty face and before he even fully felt the pain, he heard a commanding voice ask, “Was this what you were trying to present to the lady?"
As he fell to the ground, the man’s eyes reflected his understanding of the fact that the balance of power had rapidly shifted. As the life began to fade from his eyes, he realized he would never rape again as he saw what was held in the bloody palm of his attackers hand.

Surprisingly Great Read
Annabelle_Meyers: I was hesitant to order this book due to the fact it was a romance, written by a man, and that's something you just don't see too much of. However, this story was well written, with a well thought out story line. It was filled with romance that will make any woman sigh, humor that will make you laugh until you cry, and erotic scenes that will take your breath away. I highly recommend this book.
I'm hoping that, due to the title portion of "Book One", there is a second one in the works? I'd love to see this story continued.
I would like to offer the author some advice as a publicist by profession, I would have suggested the author mention a wife or at least fiance in his bio. I advise this because of the fact women like to fantasize that a book like this, might have a thread of truth in it and thus, the man knows the feelings and emotions he writes of. I would not have hesitated buying it in that case.
