For Patrick, being twelve years old can be challenging. Add to that the unusual ability to experience dreams as reality and you begin to understand Patrick's need for a little self-control. A "sweet" dream devouring the world's largest ice cream sundae can end with an enormous stomachache. A fall from a bike means Patrick wakes with a broken arm. Try explaining that to the emergency room doctor. Oh wait -- that would be Patrick's mom. She's a dream seeker too, as are Patrick's sister and brother. If Patrick follows the family's dream-seeking rules he can have cool nighttime adventures.

The story is wholesome, but funny and mysterious. Sure to hook beginning readers eager to fly through the chapters.
The cover and illustrations are delightful. Kids will devour Dream Seekers, pass them on to their friends, and eagerly await what I hope will be a series of adventure books.

Imagine flying a spaceship or ordering a never-ending bowl of ice cream. Most kids would love dreams like that. But for twelve-year-old Patrick, he has to be very careful what he dreams about, because his dreams become a form of reality. When one evening before dinner, he dreams that he is flying a diplomat on an urgent, interplanetary mission, he knows he cannot afford to fail.
The first book in a series about a family of dream seekers, Fright Flight is a solid, well-written, well-edited, imaginative and highly engaging adventure story that would appeal to 7-10 year olds (especially boys). Imagine Buzz Light Year (from Toy Story) crossed with the Magic Tree House! If your children like Secrets of Droon or the Magic Tree House series, they will really enjoy this one. Even children who have outgrown the other series might find this one still within their interest.
High Interest/Easy Read
From the moment the story begins, boys and girls can let their dreams come true. Imagine eating every kind of ice cream all at once! I want to try the rules for "Sweet Dreams" - they sound as if they just might work. The story draws the reader into the action; we feel nervous and excited for Patrick as he straps himself into the pilot seat. We are relieved when Mom shows up just when Patrick needs her help. And of course, there is the yummy dream food! Ms. Ard gets kid humor and what catches their interest. What I like most as a reading teacher is that the book is an easy to read chapter book that is both interesting and exciting. The premise that you can really live in your dream is one that resonates with everyone. Kids in the classroom are waiting in line to read it!
