Trish and Gabby, two diner waitresses in 1950s New Jersey, scrimp to make the rent money. They befriend an elderly reclusive neighbor and when he dies, he leaves them a fortune.

His private past drives their suspicion that he was part of a criminal conspiracy and they wonder if the money is the ill-gotten gains of that life.

He leaves a mysterious set of clues about where they can recover the bulk of the money and they risk their lives and relationship to find it.

If and how the women will succeed and whether the result will mark their demise is the focus of the story.

What would a story be without lots of family drama? There's a healthy dose of that as well.
