Be Prepared for a Great Puzzle
Desperate Deeds by Patricia Gligor had me on the edge of my seat almost from the beginning of the book. Suspects stacked up for a future event and character development kept me reading.
A young girl is missing. Ann Kern is starting a new business, and her husband, David, is struggling with alcoholism. A neighbor seems to be struggling to get through each day. People are acting strangely. And then the unthinkable happens. The Kern's son disappears without a trace. The suspects are numerous.
Ms. Gligor created suspense throughout the story, even when small incidents are touched on. The book will keep you guessing.
I highly recommend this story for those who love to solve a puzzle and who love a good mystery. Significant issues are touched upon and I found myself nodding during parts of the story, agreeing with the characters’ opinions.
I’ll be waiting for the next Malone Mystery.

Tackles Tough Issues with a Mystery
Gligor did an excellent job developing the characters in this mystery, characters with flaws and secrets--like real people.
Along with the story, we see these people facing and dealing with big problems. I also love the way the author depicts the settings. Good job, compelling story.

Another Malone Mystery Winner
Gligor's Malone Mysteries just keep getting better. Being able to revisit with old friends from past books is just part of the joy. Gligor skillfully weaves in the background information needed to contextualize events and characters while still moving the new plot forward. It never feels like "reader feeder". Ann and her neighbors are just the sort you'd want around when things get tough. Authentic, caring, concerned, smart, and supportive-- you'll want to move in beside them. And, if there's ever a mystery needing solved, you'd have Ann on the job for you.
