Description
During the Korean War, a Navy pilot collides with an unknown aircraft. A deadly component from the crash lands on a remote island beach, and remains there until it is discovered decades later. The story rapidly progresses to present day, when U.S. sailor, Randy Farren, finds the round, rose-colored object on an uninhabited Korean island, and begins experiencing headaches, hallucinations, and nightmares.
This story follows the journey of the mysterious object, and explores the effects it has on everyone who tries to possess it. Insanity, murder, government conspiracies, and hints of humor and romance are included in the race against time, as the fate of civilization hangs in the balance.
Excerpt
Sometime around 3:00 a.m., Maria was awakened by the sound of loud static coming from the living room. She looked over at Juan, but he was not in bed. She arose from bed and walked to the living room. She gasped as she saw her husband sitting in his recliner with his mouth gaped open, and drool dripping from his chin. His eyes were turned back in their sockets, with only the whites exposed. In his hand was a butcher knife from the kitchen.
She stood frozen for a moment then noticed the screen on the television was white and snowy. Red pixels formed on the screen and spelled the words, Give it back, in a wavy, drifting font. Suddenly, her attention was drawn to the ashtray that sat on the table beside Juan’s recliner. The rose colored object began to glow, illuminating the whole room.
Maria let out a terrorizing scream. The television popped off and the light from the object went out. Juan made a groan and she grabbed the knife from his hand. “Juan, what’s happening?”
Juan, as if rising from the dead, uttered, “What?”
“What’s going on?” Maria yelled.
Juan came to his senses, but was still stunned. He looked around. “I only remember going to bed earlier.”
As she went over the events that just happened with Juan, it was obvious that he was clueless. Maria pointed to the object, “Get rid of it,” she demanded, as she raised her voice. “That thing is evil; it is something from the devil!” She paused for a moment and made the sign of the cross with her shaking hand. “You take it back to that ship where you found it!” she shouted. “I don’t want it in my house.”

The Monkey Toy
I found The Monkey Toy very intriguing. Everything you would expect a mystery/thriller to be. By the third chapter I was hooked and by the second day had finished the book. Did not want to put it down. Very well written. Historic. Fact based. I recommend this book to everyone.

Suspense
This is a good suspense generating writing. Upon receipt, I read the complete book without closing it except for going to the bathroom. The time frame Korea to present is compelling for most people. The author introduces the characters and fleshes them out very professional. Story keeps you wanting to find out what happens to each character, as well as the world in general. The toy is very intriging and ties the book together. Very descriptive, and lucid insight into the military, especially the Navy. I like the final few chapters (couldn't read them fast enough), and the fact the author allows the reader room for speculation at the end. This book is begging for a sequel.

Excellent Read
The booked flowed well throughout,never dragged in spots as some novels do. I thought the characters were very believably fleshed out and gave a good feel for the Navy and ship board life. The many unexpected turns, kept you turning the pages and not wanting to put it down. Graphic at times,but certainly adds to the reality of our times and the unexpected ending of the novel.
