How a criminal lunatic, and his small band of ruthless cohorts, completely take over a civilized, sophisticated and advanced country. This book tells you exactly how!
Within days, Adolf Hitler quickly got to work on the next part of his master plan; and, on 3rd February, only four days after achieving power, he began setting out what would be the new Nazi government’s foreign policy. His prime goal, he told his audience, would be to promote the new government’s policy of “Lebensraum”; which, roughly translated, means “Living Space”. He said that, in order of importance, this was to be his first goal; to provide more living space for the German “master race”. He told them that, due to the territorial strictures that had been placed upon the country, by the ‘Treaty of Versailles’’, Germany was overpopulated and the country would soon not be able feed its people from the existing resources it had been left with. Germany, he said, needed to expand beyond the borders which had been imposed on it by the victorious allies; imposed on a humbled and defeated Germany. This punitive and humiliating treaty had been forced on the German people by the allied powers, (Mainly by France); and, it was universally hated by every person in Germany, of whatever political persuasion, it had become unbearable, throughout the whole of the country: and it had to be torn up.
It soon became clear that the new Nazi government’s supremacist ideology was to look upon most other European peoples as being “Inferior races”. So, they considered that it was perfectly natural for a strong, vigorous and healthy, people like the Germans, to simply displace these inferior races. Doing this, he informed them, would provide more living space and more resources for the superior German people. It was obvious that the declared policy of the Nazis was to kill, deport or enslave the entire Polish, Ukrainian, Russian and all other Slavic populations. Others who were to be included in their plans were the gypsy Roma people. However, at the top of their list were the Jews, whom they especially considered to be ‘Untermenschen’, an inferior race and a sub human species.
They intended to repopulate the conquered lands with their own, pure blooded, Germanic people. The Nazis planned that entire populations of the cities of these conquered countries were to be exterminated: wiped out by summary executions. They were to be killed by firing squad and by starvation, for the slightest infringement of German laws; thus creating the necessary agricultural resource, the surpluses of food , to feed Germany. These policies would also create the living space needed for the replacement of the conquered people by, what they considered to be, a German master race.
Excerpt
The new Nazi government passed a whole plethora of new laws, which brooked no argument, either from the Reichstag or the German people. Prior to January 30th 1933, Germany had approximately thirty different political parties; a recipe for chaos you may well think; and, with good cause.
However, within three months after the passage of the Enabling Act, all political parties, except the Nazi Party, were banned or pressured into dissolving themselves. This was followed on, 14 July, by a law that made the Nazi Party the only legally permitted political party in the country.
Hitler had fulfilled what he had promised in earlier campaign speeches; in one speech he declared, "I set for myself one aim ... to sweep these thirty parties out of Germany!" With the passage of the Enabling Act, to all intents and purposes, Germany became a one-party state.
For the majority of German people, Hitler’s accession to power was actually a popular decision. It is a matter of historical record that, when President Hindenburg bestowed the position of Reichschancellor on Adolf Hitler, on that night of 30th January 1933, there was a huge, joyous, crowd of people watching the parade of black uniformed National Socialist SS, and brown shirted SA storm troopers as they marched triumphantly through the streets carrying flaming torches.
As the crowds enthusiastically acknowledged their new Chancellor, the streets resounded to the sound of rhythmically beating drums and blaring military music. The huge throngs lining the route raised their arms, giving the Hitler salute as the procession surged through the streets of Berlin. Cheering enthusiastically, they sang the adopted song of the S A (Sturmabteilung), the ‘Horst Wessel Lied.’ From the throats of many in the crowd, shouts of Seig Heil! Seig Heil! Seig Heil (Hail Victory), were heard, interspersed with their singing.
They filled the sidewalks, and some of the crowd tried to keep pace with the marching SA and SS men. They cheered and shouted excitedly in the flickering light of the flaming torches, as the red, gold, black and white Nazi flags and banners, fluttered out above the heads of the marchers. Even the policemen who were marshaling the parade; and who, until recently, had harassed and arrested the SA thugs, were now smiling at them. Many of those same policemen were now even wearing the Swastika armbands themselves.
As the parade passed by the Brandenburg gate and along the Wilhelmstrasse toward the government palace; the residence of President Paul von Hindenburg, the sound of military music, and the beat of the drums carried by the SA, men grew to a crescendo: louder and louder.
When they arrived at the palace the parade began to mark time, left right, left right, their jackboots resounded on the street, and the sound of the beating drums became even louder still: beating insistently, almost demanding attention.
From somewhere out of the night, a piercing white spotlight lanced through the darkness picking out a large viewing window in the wall of the Presidential palace.
At the window, overlooking the Wilhelmstrasse, a man’s figure appeared. There was a roar from the crowd, and they cheered wildly as they recognized him; it was the frail and sick, eighty four years old, President Hindenburg. He slowly raised a hand, acknowledging the cheers of the crowd; he just stood for a moment and looked at the crowds of cheering people.
Then, he waved once more before he turned away from the window, shaking his head as he shuffled back inside the Presidential Palace. As the old man disappeared, the spotlight went out and the surreal scene was lit only by the light of the flickering torches, as they picked out the colors of Nazi flags and banners.
For a while there was no activity, high up in the palace window, but still the noise went on. The tension began to build up as the throbbing sound of the drums of the SA still rhythmically beat out their triumphant and demanding message.
Then, in what must surely have been a carefully orchestrated plan by the propaganda minister Josef Göebbels, the darkness was again pierced by the blinding white beam of the spotlight. As it lit up the side of the palace, the drums hammered out even louder; and, again, there were roars of, ‘Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil’! The crowd went wild with enthusiasm as they all gave the Nazi salute. On that night, it was clear that, to the ordinary people of Germany, Hitler was a very popular choice. As they demanded his presence, the excited crowd began to roar out his name: ‘Adolf Hitler, Adolf Hitler’!
