Full of heart
The book contains about 60 pages of poetry (short for the price, but the quality makes up for it). Favorite themes include love and attraction, friendship, and the beauty of the night sky and of nature. The poems are mostly rhyming, and only occasionally metered; and the book is full of half-rhyme, which results in some very interesting effects. For instance, many of the poems require careful study to see if they are even rhyming at all!
The result, if you simply read through smoothly, is that the words sit in your consciousness like musical notes on a score, occasionally reinforcing each other, occasionally not, but all working together with a sort of mystical quality.
The poetry is heavily inspired by Emily Dickinson, as the author confesses on her website. But it's not derivative. Some authors give their favorites genuine love, and share parts of themselves with the authors they admire. The result is something that can stand on its own two feet while having the blood of the teacher flowing through its veins. Although there aren't many poems in this book whose subjects have never been chosen before, the depth of feeling and of honesty with which they're written means that no one, no matter how many poems they've read, will find the experience not worthwhile. Hearts are new every time they get written about.
This book is technically adept, and full of a wonderful kindness, patience, and wonder. I recommend it to anyone who can read a poem.
