Kept me on the edge of my seat!
I am a big fan of the author and her latest creation, Work of Art does not disappoint. From the very beginning, the reader is treated to an engaging storyline and the wonderful writing style of this talented author. No matter if this is your typical genre of choice or not, Work of Art is a page turner of a book that will keep you guessing and interested, to the very end. The dialogue between the characters along with the meticulous attention to detail, will make the reader feel like they're watching a great time piece movie. In my opinion, there is nothing quite like a good murder mystery and when combined with a well-crafted storyline and relatable characters what you end up with is a, Work of Art. My recommendation: buy it, enjoy it and once the action gets going, you'll want to read it with the lights on. It has just enough suspense and eeriness to keep even the most die hard murder mystery fans satisfied and engaged. Highly recommended.

Ginger Myrick has written an intriguing romantic mystery set in late 19th century New York City. This tightly plotted tale features the beautiful, artistic and clairvoyant Del Ryan who is supporting her invalid mother by working as a companion to an elderly socialite. Her old friend, Jimmy, is from the same rough Irish neighborhood in Five Points. He's always looked out for Del, like a brother, and suddenly he clumsily reveals his true romantic feelings, but it's too late -- the lovely Del has already fallen for a wealthy and distinguished stranger she met by chance. The handsome Killian quickly sweeps Del off her feet and into a world wealth, elegance and beautiful finery. Caught up in the luxury and comfort of her opulent lifestyle, Del tries to adapt to the mysterious ways of her new husband. She'll need all those who truly love her by her side when life takes a dangerous and sinister turn. A page-turner with plenty of (tastefully written) passionate scenes and enough surprising plot twists to keep you reading to the very end.

This books is a work of art: romance, thrills and chills!
Yet again another fantastic book by Ginger Myrick. I have become a huge fan of her work and hope she will be writing another soon. Work of Art: Love & Murder in 19th Century New York is a beautifully written book. So much so I could almost feel, see and smell the things I was reading about.
This book takes you on a journey to a bygone era in New York where we meet the wonderful Del, of Irish descent, whose family moved to New York in search of a better life. Del and her mother live alone and their back story is a sad one of loss and struggle. Both skilled painters, Del's mother is physically unable to continue use of her talents as a painter, however Del proves herself to be an even better artist than her mother. Del's ability flows from her like magic and she has to give in to her urges to paint.
Living in a poor district of the city Del is overjoyed to gain the attentions and affections of a gentleman from the better part of the city and a different world to her own but one of which she is familiar with through her work and awareness of her more affluent family origins. Del's affections are desired by both the dashing and affluent Killian, and the loveable, Irish rogue Jimmy. Del is swept away by her prince charming and most are happy for her. It is a Cinderella story where the plain duckling is transformed into the swan she is destined to be.
But things take a chilling and creepy turn as the bodies of young women turn up around the city, being left in disturbingly, similar ways. Del's urges to paint take on a sinister turn as she sees things she would rather not and she has to face the fact that she may know the culprit.
This book has twists and turns that left me wondering who the serial killer may be and willing Del to be safe and loved, as she deserves to be. There is a Jack the Ripper quality to the murders which really did give me chills through the clever writing of Ginger and despite the lack of excessive graphic detail. My imagination went to town and left me very nervous on late, windy nights.
A fantastic book with everything from romance to chills that made me want to read it all over again once I had finished it. There aren't many books that have such an effect on me but Ginger Myrick always delivers and her books are pure escapism as classically good books should be.
