I was raised in West Texas near the New Mexico State line, and have actually lived in Mexico for two short periods (Once as a border guard; once at White Sands Missile Range in the Army), and almost three years while researching and writing this novel. I wrote "The Ghost of Mount Chinati" during my three years in Roswell, inspired by the city's enthusiasm for UFOs while there; but all the while I continued to work on "Paula"  I have always suspected that she was wrongfully maligned and ill-depicted by the Billy the Kid authors that have mentioned her. My research bore out that theory.

Back of Cover Blurb: "In the life of every man there is a love for whom he would die.  For Billy the Kid, she was Paula Maxwell."  To understand the irony of that statement, you would have to read the whole story, for it is not necessarily a story of "standing by your man" through hell and high water.
