The Awaited Sequel Is Finally Released
Anyone who ever read Jenny Kalahar's "Shelve Under C" will be thrilled to find out her sequel has been released. We all loved the unique and sweet way she was able to weave together a family, a bookstore, and rescue cats with which she then was able to spin out a feel-good book.
Her new "The Find of a Lifetime" carries through with the bookstore owning family and those who wander in and out every day. Her style is so warm that you feel you could be sitting in a comfortable chair watching all the coming and going. We re-visit the (I adore) cat who lives in the bookstore, Buglit, who is introduced to the new rescue who is a three legged cat. After a little cattitude, they settle down, but never forget they are up for a forever home. All but Buglit, of course. That little cutie isn't going anywhere. Mrs. O'Malley has the talent to put cats and humans together like those who think they are successful at matchmaking.
Mr. O'Malley's talent is the vision to recognize valuable items regardless of the condition they are found in and works hard for the owners to get them their due. Even if unsuccessful, he continues to strive to ensure they get what they deserve, even if they don't need it. You'll have to read the book to understand what I mean by this comment.
Enjoy the sweet O'Malleys, the owners of the bookstore and their capacity for love and kindness then after you have discovered the perfect pace with which Jenny describes the lives that are intertwined throughout her story, you will then be a mess until she writes her next sequel.
Take a break from the world and enjoy.
About the nicest thing I could say about this book is that I'd love to sit down and break bread with these characters. If you read her first book, then you'll be happy to find that your favorite people and cats are back as well as some surprising additions. I just love the themes she explores. If you're one who watches the news and just wishes there were more stories that make you happy rather than depressed and despairing for the world, then you've found a book that will provide an oasis from all of that. Turn off your cell, gather your favorite feline onto your lap and treat yourself to a most enjoyable read. You may find yourself wanting to do a road trip to find these folks though...
