Read and have a Kalahar good time
Jenny Kalahar's "One Mile North of Normal and Other Poems" is an absolutely delightful sit-down-get-lost-in-silly-and-fun poetry book. There is very little rhyme and reason (no pun intended) to her poetry which is what gives it so much ooomph, insight and character.
She wanders in and out of her own personal world and shows us what an interesting person she must be in real life. Armed with a killer sense of humor and a hint of poignancy, she brings out that unexpected laugh as well as that "awwww" that resides in all of us. The seriousness of some of her poetry I think surprises even her. This is a woman who has gone through an intriguing history. She has to have had one to be able to delve into such sensitive areas and come out so positive in the end.
There is undoubtedly a third or fourth book lurking in her journals simply waiting for her to organize them. However, since the first two have been such a joy for us to read, I hope it doesn't take too long. I'm waiting patiently.

One Mile North of Normal is a great book and also great poem! Some of my other favorite poems among its pages are “To think of Wilder Things”, “Ruthie”, “Miss Betty Boop has Now Retired”, “The Wretched Hat”, “The Face of my Vistors” , and “Baby Vampire Rat”. Jenny Kalahar has a fun way of telling stories within her poetry; she is witty and very quirky. Other then the funny parts there is soul and heart. Without a doubt everyone could find something in this book that they would fall in love with.
