This story recounts the steps of a long dark journey that a survivor of sexual abuse faced, after she became the mother of a daughter that faced this same abuse. The Author fled a volatile boyfriend, taking her young daughter to protect her, but had a rude awakening when a fierce fight ensued over the custody of her daughter...
My hope is that people working with children in the capacity of a GAL, CASA, Judge or Social Worker will read my book and gain the revelation that the case that sits in front of them is not just "a case" - the decision's these people make significantly alter a person’s life journey and a child's childhood.

I admit that this was not an easy book to write, in fact it took me from 1995-2012 to complete.
Facing the darkness, reliving the nightmare, feeling the intense helplessness and deep sorrow is definitely not a "feel good" event. I struggled with returning to face it, when it was much easier to try to forget. But I firmly believe that this is a story that must be told.
Why?
*My prayer is two fold. First, that some young girl will read this book, recognize the red flags and save her own life. Second, that someone who works in the legal arena will read this book and learn how the decisions they make "in the best interest of children" have a life long lasting effect on people's lives.
No one is insignificant, regardless of race, or the money your parents made. To often, society forgets this. A victim needs help, not ridicule. An abuser needs to be held accountable, not rewarded. Yet all to often, the people in power abuse that power to the detriment of someone's life. This vicious cycle must be stopped.
Every single horrific act inflicted upon a person has a major effect on that person. Some people never recover and loose their QUALITY of life to it. Some take matters into their own hands and face condemnation for it.
We all want the fairy tale. We all want to marry the sweetheart of our dreams, own a great house, drive a nice car, have a great job, a fantastic family, and a large group of fun friends to grow old with.
Trauma robs you of the above. Why? Read the story...

In a cold hard tone, the words pound the stuffy air
like an atomic bomb.
Ignorance and hatred spew forth through ugly lips
that rest upon a bitter white face.
At the rap of her gavel, our lives become shattered
in a way that lacks common sense, law and mortality.
This day is like a massive earthquake.
Our bodies quiver and tremor uncontrollably
Our tears are like an enormous waterfall.
My offspring was permanently severed from me,
Like the split earth in a quake.
The sweet innocence of a young 4-year old child in pigtails and tiny shoes is sentenced to a life that no child should ever have to endure.
Innocence, shattered and forever lost.
Torment, tears, loneliness and depression become her life.
Security, protection and Love no longer belong to her.
In time, my little one became the feather in the wind, whisked away, visible only in fragments of time with no rhyme or reason, until one day I did not see her.
The days turned to weeks, the weeks to months, the months to years.
Even though time passed by, I remained trapped in a place in time that knew only grief, pain, despair, sadness and darkness.
My soul ached for my grave, but my grave did not come.

Incredible book about a Mother who fought hard or her daughter
This book is for everyone involved in helping children. Lynda fought so hard for her daughter to keep her safe. Every time it looked like she would feel heard, the system would ignore her. As a Guardian Ad Litem myself, this was a story that I hope everyone can read. Every parent should be heard. And everyone in the court system need to be open making changes.

riveting, heartbreaking and heartwarming. a must read. once you start, you can't stop! the injustices experienced and a mothers undying quest to right all the wrongs the system committed...you feel her pain, her anger, you cry tears (i did) if you have or know someone with a child in the system....please read, or refer this book...at the very least..people should know...it's not just them...they are not alone
