True love can’t be denied nor erased. Chemical love, founded in undeniable attraction, much like who we are and what culture we are born into, can never be replaced with our own ideas of who we dream of being or want to be like. A story that will make us think about the choices we make in life that we really don’t have to make. It might just make us realize that what we have isn’t all that bad and what we think we need isn’t all that good. Or maybe it will do none of this. But at the very least it will make us think. “I am not going back to the fields where you have to work ten to twelve hours every day, the bugs they bit you, you sweat all day and then summer is hot. My mama she got sick from the stuff they sprayed the weeds in the fields. We traveled all over. It was not a good life Nellie.” Marisela tells her friend.
Marisela, the young Mexican woman is now working for Trevor and Eleanor Kendrick as the nanny for their children. She is grateful that she will no longer have to work in the fields or the sheds as a migrant worker. She has four children with Viktor Mendoza who is also a migrant worker. She see all the wealth the white people have and desires that lifestyle, even if it means tearing two families apart and using withcraft to accomplish her goals.
Trevor, a wealthy aristocrat wants it all; career, family and yes – forbidden love. A Harvard graduate, Trevor accepts a position with a prestigious law firm in Salinas, California with aspirations to become a state senator. However, he will need to convey a happy home life with his wife Eleanor and their three children. Will harmony be restored once his life is intertwined with Marisela? He struggles to combine it all; family, career and his lover. But, when Eleanor finds out about the affair, Marisela is fired. Will his choices now alter his political career?
How will Marisela explain to Viktor, her husband, why she no longer works for the Kendricks’? Will he force her to leave without their four children or will he forgive her?

Unique Interpretation of an Age-Old Story
Carol Meadows does something that's hard to do in her first book, Uncommon Thread,- make her characters real, vulnerable and human. When we read most novels we immediately seek out characters to identify with, to feel sorry for, to pull for. But when an author makes their characters real, they have to make them less than heroes. Even heroes are imperfect. This is what happens in this one-sitting read of an age-old story. The characters are well-defined and so it's easy to pick a favorite pretty early in this book. But through her excellent character development, Ms. Meadows, writes inglorious episodes of humanity into her characters- they become like us- sometimes good people, sometimes despicable miscreants and sometimes villains instead of heroes. When you read this book you choose favorites in the beginning but those choices might not hold up throughout the book, but that's the writing excellence in this book- our environment make us who we are, it creates circumstances, we just respond to what's presented before us. We can say we would act or respond in a certain way if presented with a particular set of circumstances. But we'd never know what we would really do unless we experience those circumstances, instead of just imagine what we would do. My favorite in the beginning of this cleverly crafted book is not my favorite in the end. Weaving a story line that accomplishes that is rather impressive of this first time author. A very good reading choice. 5 Stars out of 5.

When I started reading Uncommon Thread, I could not put the book down. The characters came to life and I could not extract myself from the story. I anxiously await Carol Meadows next publication.

This book involves two ethnic and ecconomic groups of people drawn together by love. The story provides interesting insight into the effects that the actions of some can and do have on others. Throughout the tale, you are given glimpses of world events that happen during the scope of the tale. Picturesque descriptions of times and places make it more interesting. An easy and enjoyable read.
