Playwright Career Profile:
Unlike movies and television, where the words are often less important than the visual images, plays are words put together to examine characters. They are structures of character and dialogue. The goal of a Playwright is to establish a bond between the spectator and the stage, engaging the audience in the play's action and evoking empathy from the playgoer. The main tool of the Playwright is dialogue. Good stage dialog is tricky to write. It must sound realistic, but not resemble the way in which real-life people speak. It must remain interesting, and furnish the audience with all the background information needed to understand the characters' motivations.
